I've always been a fan of compact powder. Before I really understood the benefit of a decent concealer and foundation, a powder puff was a fundamental part of my makeup bag; I can remember dusting a little over my complexion before heading off to school and feeling like an absolute boss. Even now I feel a little naked without a light covering of something over my base - not only because it helps keep everything in place, but because it helps to create a more universal tone and flawless texture on which to build my bronzer and blush. Although you can pick up a pan of powder for a few pounds, as I age I've definitely noticed that some of my most loved favourites have started to sit in fine lines and look a little heavy on my skin. Available in a portfolio of shades that each contain four different tones, the Givenchy Prisme Visage powders are incredibly silky and smooth. You may be wondering why on earth you'd need a slightly odd looking face powder at all, but the concept behind these is that they contain four complementary colours that together provide a more four dimensional finish; none of us are just one colour, so these help to create subtle texture and radiance in a more realistic way. The palest of the collection contains four tones that are traditionally used to 'colour correct' redness, dullness and dark circles; although you could use them individually, together they help to subtly counteract any discolouration and create a very fresh base. The peachy tinted powder helps to create radiance and a healthy glow, without overloading with colour, while the darker shade works beautifully as a bronzer-come-blush.

Each compact comes with an angled application brush which can be used for more precise contouring or highlighting, but I personally find the powders work better with a slightly fluffy brush that can gently work the product over the skin. The key here is that these are developed to provide an incredibly subtle and almost undetectable finish on skin - both in look and feel. Givenchy haven't designed these to help you contour like a Kardashian or colour correct like a makeup pro, but to offer women an easy way to enhance their natural look. I adore the texture (which is so finely milled it practically melts from the palette onto skin,) and have been thoroughly enjoying buffing these different shades into my skin. They may be a skincare investment at £34.50 each, but if you're looking for a more 'age appropriate' compact powder that really delivers, these are definitely worth considering.
