Scrubbing away the day offers more than just a body benefit; it offers an emotional one too. There's something refreshing and reaffirming about buffing away dead and dry skin, revealing the radiant and glowing layers beneath. The very action of lifting away what's weighing us down and starting anew can leave us feeling uplifted, but it can also help the body to look and feel its best. Consistent exfoliation can not only ensure our skin is healthy looking and refreshed, but it also helps to prevent clogged pores, acne, ingrown hairs, scarring, blemishes and all kinds of infections. Exfoliation can also increase the effectiveness of the other steps in your skincare routine, unblocking pores and ensuring moisturisers can penetrate and get to work. But did you know you can exfoliate much more than just your face and body? A new generation of scrubs are providing top-to-toe buffing that will leave not only your arms and legs looking en point, but our complexion, hair and lips too. I've outlined some of my current favourite exfoliators below and hope you take a little inspiration to find some unique scrubbing textures that will help you feel squeaky clean.

Filorga Reoxygenating Exfoliating Scrub & Mask (£38.00)
This multi-functioning skincare treat helps to exfoliate away dull skin, while infusing the surface with additional oxygen for a more radiant glow. Applying the creamy scrub to the surface of the face, you simply massage gently in circular motions to help lift away dull skin; the cream quickly starts to gently bubble and after a minute or two it's absorbed into the skin leaving only the grains of exfoliant behind. Not only does it leave my complexion looking and feeling smooth, but the whole experience is completely enjoyable from beginning to end; I love the way the little bubbles feel and how they help to kick-start an otherwise half-asleep face, especially in the morning as a two minute pick-me-up. It's pricey, but the pump action pot helps to reduce the amount you're using each time to ensure you get the most from your investment.

Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub For Smooth Skin (£30.00)
There are body exfoliators and then there are body exfoliators! Although you could pick one up for a couple of quid in Superdrug, this incredibly fine and creamy texture from Clarins makes the whole experience luxurious and effective without overloading the skin. Bamboo powders leave skin silky-soft, smooth and glowing with radiance, while massaging movements help to remove impurities; it also helps to stimulate cellular renewal and leave the surface firmer and soft to the touch, which is much welcome if your skin is starting to show the signs of ageing. Great as a twice weekly treatment in the summer to help remove the build-up of fake tan or just keep skin feeling smooth, you need only a coin-sized amount to cover each limb effectively. A luxury buy, but worth every penny.

Matrix Sugarshine Polishing Hair Scrub (£11.95)
Possibly the only hair scrub in existence, this rather unusual concept helps to restore radiance to hair that's weighed down by residue and styling products. If you're a fan of dry shampoo, styling sprays or shampoos saturated with silicone, you may notice your hair becoming dull and lacklustre. This sugary scrub works in the same way as a clarifying shampoo to help lift away build-up and leave hair feeling restored. Fortified with water-soluble sugar crystals that melt into hair, the moisturising humectants the scrub contains deeply nourish and hydrate without added weight to reveal revitalised locks with a 'salon-worthy shine.' Even suitable for colour treated hair, it's rather odd to use initially but I quite like the ritual involved in applying this to hair pre-shampoo. The key is to apply in sections and gently massage into the surface, using an effective shampoo to remove it in the shower after a few minutes. It doesn't overload the surface or leave any residue, just squeaky clean hair that you'll want to swish.

Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask (£38.00)
I'm a big fan of a lot of the Ole Henriksen products and their unusual formats (you have to try the Gelee Cleanser!) and this polishing mask is no exception. The extremely runny texture hides sugar, pomegranate seeds, honey, pumpkin extract and rosehip to naturally buff, brighten and soothe skin. Applied as a face mask to allow the ingredients to penetrate and inject a touch of radiance, after ten or so minutes you can massage the excess in to lift away dead skin cells from the surface. The two-in-one action not only saves you time and money (no need to invest in a seperate product,) but it smells ah-mazin. It is an investment, but like the other high end scrubs I've featured you get a lot of product and need a minimal amount with every application. It's not groundbreaking in terms of result, but I genuinely enjoy using it and love pampering my skin with this when I've had a long day. Definitely worth having a look if you're in the market for some new face treats!

Frank Body Lip Scrub (£11.95 with lip balm)
A brand that’s been on the receiving end of a lot of hype recently, Frank Body is all about embracing the benefits of coffee granules. Containing ground robusta coffee, coffee seed oil, raw sugar, macadamia oil and ethically sourced beeswax, this cute little pot hides a powerful product. It definitely smells like a sweet morning coffee (personally one of my favourite scents,) and glides over lips to gently buff away dry skin. If you’re a regular lipstick wearer, or generally just suffer from dry lips, this can help to rid your pout of dryness while simultaneously providing a natural  burst of fatty acids. Coffee seed oil is said to stimulate the production of collagen, so massaging this into lips once or twice a week could help boost the look and feel of your mouth in the long term too.

Odylique Coconut Candy Scrub (£25.00)
Yes, this really does smell as good as it sounds! If you want to be transported to a tropical island without even leaving your bath tub, then you need to treat yourself to a tub of this beautiful body exfoliator. A unique jelly-type formula (that looks quite like a tub of fish eggs, but bear with it!) holds exfoliating poppy seeds, smoothing and renewing fairtrade sugar cane (rich in glycolic acid), moisturising virgin coconut and hydrating cocoa bean butter to leave skin feeling polished and smooth. The natural benefits of coconut oil are well documented: we're eating it, cooking with it, beautifying with it and practically rolling in it. Odylique have harnessed the power of this supercharged ingredient and added it into a gently exfoliating formula, both for the scent and hydration benefits it provides. I don't know if I enjoy slapping this on or sniffing it more, but it's absolutely gorgeous and a welcome break from cheap and cheerful candy-coloured scrubs.

Do you regularly exfoliate, or does the sound of scrubbing your hair or lips fill you with dread?
