Makeup In A Stick: Three Great Handbag Friendly Base Products You Need To Try

Believe it or not, I'm already starting to think about summer beauty regimes and holiday-appropriate makeup. It may still be a little drizzly and definitely not just-a-light-jacket weather yet, but we're creeping closer and closer to that time of year where convenience and practicality outweighs lust. Makeup compressed into a stick format is nothing new (we've had all kinds of innovations from brands in the last couple of years,) but it is pushing the boundaries and continually satisfying my need for something I can pop in my bag with ease. Stick products are not only a space saver and ensure you've got even more liquid allowance at the airport, but they help to speed up my morning routine and minimise mess. If there are no liquid spillages or dustings of blush all over my freshly cleaned dress, then that's a bonus all round. Here are three current favourites that I've been using together on mornings when I want my skin to look understated and natural...

1. Clinique 'Chubby In The Nude' Foundation Stick (£23.00)
Having been a fan of the Clinique 'Chubby' range since it was launched a few years ago, I'm always waiting with baited breath to see what's next from the brand - and this foundation stick doesn't disappoint. It does feel a bit strange colouring in your face initially, but the perfectly matched colour and skin perfecting matte formula help to create a uniform finish with just the help of a little beauty blender. (Don't even try to blend this in with your digits!) Although the finish isn't heavy, it's enough for me to use during the day with a touch of concealer and little dusting of powder; you can even build the result up to conceal dark circles and contour the face, if you're so inclined. I do find it starts to move in the afternoon, so taking it with you for touch-ups on the go is definitely a good idea.

2. Amazing Cosmetics Perfection Stick Concealer (£18.00)
When a concealer is called 'Amazing Concealer' then you've got high expectations, but Amazing Cosmetics didn't disappoint when they launched their first ever product. This stick version builds on that concept, offering high pigment without any kind of cakey finish that works perfectly with the Clinique Chubby Foundation. Although the coverage isn't anywhere near as hardcore as the liquid original (which is still one of my favourite ever concealers,) this is a fab little product that helps to conceal imperfections in an instant. Available in two shades, this is also apparently a contouring tool - although I'm yet to figure out how that would work! I like the targeted application, the non-greasy finish and the fact that I can subtly top-up without covering myself in product.

3. Avon Cream Blush & Highlighter Duo (£8.50)
Just to continue the stick theme, this double-ended blush and highlighter duo is a great product for traveling - or just using on a day where you want to add a subtle glow to skin. The universal tones add a flush to cheeks and a delicate glow to cheekbones, adding a touch of health when you need it most. I personally don't get on with applying the product directly onto skin (as it tends to pick up what's been applied underneath,) but buffing it in using a finger provides a delicate finish. The coral-esque blush tone is surprisingly universal and adds a more natural tint than pink, while the creamy golden shade of the highlighter catches the light without providing tonnes of sparkle.

Are you a fan of stick format makeup, or do you prefer to keep things liquid?
