SPF For The Bits We Miss, But Show The Signs Of Ageing Worst: NEW Ultrasun Hand & Eye

Although we've been programmed to associate exotic locations and cocktails with the need to layer up with sun protection, up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can actually penetrate through clouds and fog; that means that stepping outside on a dreary winter's morning can potentially be just as harmful as a sunny spring day. It's important to be mindful of looking after our skin (regardless of the season) not only because of the associated skin cancer risks, but because UV exposure is the number one reason for accelerated ageing; nobody wants to speed up the onset of those fine lines and wrinkles, so integrating an effective and lightweight SPF into your daily routine is the simplest tactic towards prevention. Facial SPF’s were once heavy, greasy and  sticky and prevented makeup from applying well over the surface, but times have changed; formulas are now much lighter, more practical and designed to work in conjunction with other skincare and makeup. However, considering the two parts of our body that are more prone to the first signs of ageing than any other are often left unprotected (I'm talking hands and eyes,) it's about time that someone launched products for the bits we often miss.

Ultrasun quickly became one of my 'go to' suncare brands last summer when I was introduced to the range ahead of an appearance on QVC. Their textures are delightful (proving that incredibly effective suncare protection doesn't have to mean covering yourself in thick and gloopy creams,) and there's a product for pretty much every individual sun care need. From 'sports gels' developed specifically for those spending a long sweaty time out in the sun, to family packs formulated for sensitive skins and tinted lotions for those of us needing a little help in the colour department, they really do think about the experience of application as well as the practicality of wearing SPF; all the Ultrasun products I've tried absorb and dry within seconds, meaning you don't have to wait an age to get dressed and on with your day.

When I heard about their latest innovations for hands and eyes, it made me wonder why nobody had created creams for these specific areas before. It's often said that no matter how much botox you have, your hands will *always* give away your true age - but that could be a thing of the past if you start using the Ultrasun Anti-Pigmentation Hand Cream (£18.00). This lightweight creamy formula offers high-level protection from both UVA and UVB rays, while simultaneously offering powerful targeted anti-ageing ingredients that can essentially ‘turn back the clock’ while preventing further damage. They claim that, if used daily, the treatment can provide visible brightening of existing pigmentation in just two weeks. Although I don't yet suffer from pigmentation and can't substantiate the claim personally, I do know Ultrasun back everything up with in-depth research and clinical trials. Thankfully the cream is water resistant (although it will need re-applying every time you thoroughly wash your hands) and doubles up as a hydrating hand cream too, meaning it's quite simply a must-have for anyone genuinely concerned about their ageing hands.

Additionally, the Ultrasun Eye Protection SPF30 (£18.00) is also causing quite the stir within the industry. Our under-eye area in particular is one of the first areas of our bodies to start showing the first signs of ageing, due to the extremely thin skin, but until now there's not been a specific product to help target that (that I know of) from an SPF point of view. Eye creams will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and puffiness, but what if you could stop those little wrinkles from appearing so quickly and so deeply in the first place? This little cream not only targets the darkness we inevitably suffer from by brightening the skin, but contains high protection UVA and UVB to help protect the skin from premature ageing. All you need is a small pea-sized amount for both eyes, dabbed around the orbital bone (eye socket) like you would a normal eye cream. Although it's slightly heavier than my usual creams, it absorbs quickly to leave no residue or heaviness - so much so that you can even apply over makeup.

These two sun care products may seem a little excessive, both in price and yet another step in an already expansive skincare routine, but I can guarantee they'll be the stages you're most grateful for including ten years down the line. A little investment in your skin now will pay dividends in the future.

Ultrasun Anti-Pigmentation Hand Cream (£18.00) and Ultrasun Eye Protection SPF30 (£18.00)are available online and via QVC. The eye protection product is currently out of stock, but keep checking back for replenishment.
