I have such a complex relationship with fragrance. I adore perfume and tend to wear a different scent every day of the week; I spritz on something new and it transforms me into the person I want to be that day; I can catch a whiff of something at it transports me to another time and place. However, if I ever get my scent wrong I get such an intense headache that it's like my body is screaming 'what on earth were you thinking?' Over the years my tastes have evolved from favouring the sweet and sugary perfumes of the first celebrity endorsements, to opting for a more sophisticated and simple scent that's inevitably focused on only one or two main ingredients. On any given day you'll find me more likely to pick up a bottle of Jo Malone, Molton Brown or Miller Harris than Britney's latest number, but Diptyque has always been a brand I probably should love but never really got the hype around. Sure their candles are ah-mazin, and yes they look delightfully pretty on a dresser, but the juice inside never really floated my boat... Until now. Their latest incarnation 'Eau Des Sens' is warm, refreshing, delicately citrus, effervescently green and quite simply like an Italian warm summers day in a bottle.

'Eau Des Sens' is described as a 'confusion of the senses' thanks to the complexity of the notes and the warming freshness that it provides the wearer. They say: "It’s a Diptyque adventure; as soon as you think you understand it and possess its secrets, it changes directions and reveals disconcerting woody and spicy facets. Eau des Sens is well-rounded, harmonious and 'blue like an orange' on a green bough in the sunshine of the South of France. Eau des Sens deepens with the breath inhaling its woody notes freshened by ginger." Although you instantly breathe in the delightful citrus orange notes, this evolves to leave a green base that's complemented by warming ginger and earthy wood.
A harmonius cocktail of orange blossom, juniper berry and patchouli definitely make this a rather unexpected, yet addictive and totally unisex, scent that will definitely put Diptyque back in the game. I often find that Diptyque scents are overly floral, a little bit too rich or convey something that's perfect for a candle but not necessarily a fragrance you want to apply to pulse points. This is so different I'm amazed it's come from the same brand. Although the accompanying candle and soap are fabulous additions to your home decor, it's the fragrance that I'm excited about - and will no doubt be reaching for all summer long. It's taken a while, but I'm finally a convert.
Are you a fan of the Diptyque fragrances? Or does this sound like the perfect scent for you?
