NEW L’Oreal Paris Color Riche L’Huile Nail Varnish (Plus My Top Five Colour Picks)

Thank goodness for L'Oreal, because for a moment there I thought I was going to fall asleep waiting for some decent launches in the nail care market. We had so many innovations for such a long time to keep out appetites whetted, but it seems brands ran out of steam, passion and ideas to keep the nail varnish shelves topped up with newness over the last 12-18 months. All that is about to change, thanks to the launch of L’Oreal Paris' new Color Riche L’Huile Nail Varnish that's available in 22 on-trend and wearable shades. Not only is the packaging truly different (it must be hard to come up with a new idea for a rectangular glass bottle, but the cuboid and quilted finish really does look innovative) but inside is a formula that I really am loving. A unique blend of precious oils and intense colour pigments makes this a rich formula that glides over nails to provide a true-to-bottle shade in only one coat, leaving nails looking and feeling fabulous. Although the inclusion of oil slightly baffles me (I can only assume it's there to hydrate in very small quantities,) the polish leaves a pretty spectacular finish that more than justifies the £4.99 price.

Three days in and I'm only suffering from three tiny chips on the ends of my nails, which otherwise still look freshly painted. The formula dries pretty quickly too (helped by the fact you only actually need one coat,) making this a force to be reckoned with if you're an impatient applier like me. I'm incredibly pleased that this collection doesn't just include the usual pinks, reds and plum shades that I've come to expect from L'Oreal - but actually on-trend, current and relevant to the season colours that I'm already recommending to friends, family and followers. Out of the 22 shades, these are the five I'm coveting and would suggest you pick up sooner rather than later...

664 Griege Amoureux (Mushroom Grey)
The one shade that I seem to turn to the most is a nude-greige, as it seamlessly fits with any look. This mushroom colour is elegant and sophisticated, while being a grown-up alternative to the usual dusty pinks.

556 Grenat Irreverent (Cherry Black)
A great alternative to the classic Rouge Noir shade from Chanel (at a fifth of the price I might add,) this is sexy without being obvious. Another shade I turn to every single winter and know will spice up my outfit instantly.

666 Vert Absinthe (Khaki Green)
One of the hottest shades of the season, this is the tone I'm obsessed with and wearing right now. Khaki may seem intimidating, but you don't have to be an emo kid or army graduate to wear it. Surprisingly, it's a pretty neutral shade that goes with everything.

668 Bleu Royal (Deep Navy Blue)
Another hot shade for spring, navy blue nails have been seen all over the catwalks and are being showcased by some of the world's biggest designer brands. At £4.99 it's a great way to nod to igh fashion without spending a fortune.

116 Cafe De Nuit (Creamy Nude)
The perfect antidote to the usual spring time pastels, this is girly without being pink and subtle without being too understated. It's the kind of shade you can wear 365 - to the office, on a weekend or out with your mates. A wise choice, no matter your tastes.

Which shades are you loving the look of? Do any of my top five tickle your fancy?
