Highlighters are one of those pieces within a makeup collection that's often overlooked, or applied only when the wearer has a few spare minutes before leaving the house. Although it's yet another step in an already expansive routine, it can actually be the key to an incredibly healthy and natural glow. I never omit my highlighter - even when I've just popped on a thin layer of BB Cream and a slick of mascara. The light reflecting pigments can help skin to ooze health and add some much needed texture, without overloading skin or making us look too 'done'. It really would be one of the products I'd take to a desert island, especially as it's the one item of makeup I get complimented on most frequently. (Who would have thought "what highlighter are you wearing?" would be the most popular question!) Bobbi Brown are one of my favourite brands and well known for their super shimmery highlighters, but I've definitely felt a little underwhelmed with their most recent launches; nothing really stood out of whetted my appetite, until I saw these little cubes of delight pop up on Sali Hughes' Instagram feed. Finally, a nude and wearable highlighter that we can embrace all year round while not feeling like a sparkly Victoria Secret Angel. Yes, highlighters can be a little scary and intimidating (and easy to over-apply,) but when armed with a tool such as these new Nude Finish Illuminating Powders you really can't go wrong.

Available in four different shades designed to perfectly suit a range of skintones, each palette contains a mix of six subtly different colours that can be used either together or alone. When used with a fluffy angled face brush, the six tones together provide a natural finish that works perfectly with skin (after all, our skin isn't one universal colour!) to enhance our inner glow while adding an incredibly subtle colour. Although the majority of Bobbi Brown highlighters contain a high concentration of shimmer pigment, these are much more subtle; the tiny flecks are incredibly sparse, helping to catch the light without it really looking like you're wearing anything at all.
The palest shade looks like it would be perfectly suited to my English Rose complexion, but I actually found it a bit too light and not really the look I was after. However, it's a great tool if you're starting out or want a universal product that you can also use to enhance your eyes and apply more precisely under the brow and along the nose. (It also doubles up as a face powder for tackling overly shiny areas.) My personal preference includes the two middle shades, which offer a subtle colour result while keeping it understated; the slightly darker of the two can also be doubled-up as a bronzer or contouring product, especially as these work really well when layered for a more defined finish.
These may be expensive (£39.00 each) and definitely an investment piece, but I can really see an opportunity for these to slip into many of our daily routines. Highlighting can help catch the light and provide a 'dewy' finish without the need for a base that transfers onto every surface; if you get it right it really does unlock the secret to looking fabulous, even with a hangover. These definitely provide a 'nude finish' and a result that's suited to even those of you that wouldn't normally opt for a highlighter, proving there's room in every makeup bag for an illuminating powder - whether you like it or not!
Are you a fan of highlighting and bronzing? What do you think of these new products from Bobbi Brown?
