Right now I can't go a day without a new lipstick launch landing on my desk. A few years ago we wouldn't have thought twice about opting for a gloss or balm on a daily basis, but now it seems we're more and more likely to throw a lipstick into the mix too - particularly a matte version. There's something a matte lipstick that screams elegance and sophistication, while providing a modern twist; the texture ensures a bold look that perfectly complements a radiant complexion, but it can be tricky to wear. Avon have already launched their lightweight and comfortable Perfectly Matte lipstick collection that's drawn comparisons with MAC (and come out on top,) but affordable beauty brand Sleek are also taking a piece of the pie with their new six piece VIP Lip collection. The semi-matte finish is the perfect compromise between super matte and the traditional glossy formulas we're used to, providing a wearable result and comfortable formula that's enriched with Vitamin E, shea butter and coconut oil to moisturise and nourish lips.
Although there are only a few shades in the collection, the price point means this is a great intro into the matte trend and the perfect way to change up your look for a new season. The focus is very much on coral and pink tones that suit our spring wardrobes, but I have it on good authority that they'll be adding to the colour spectrum over the year. The lipstick glides over lips to deposit a serious hit of colour without dragging, leaving a finish that's matte enough to look modern but without looking super dry; there's nothing worse than a matte lipstick clinging to every speck of dryness, so the combination of ingredients ensures that doesn't happen. I personally found the nude shade to be a little too nude and not great on my slightly dry lips, but the other tones are easy to wear and as comfortable as a lipstick gets. I'd love to see some berry tones within the collection, but this is a great starting point - especially as they're priced at a bargainous £5.50 each! At a third less than the MAC formula that's been incredibly popular over the last few years, you can't really say no.
What do you think of the matte lipstick trend? Would you give these new bullets from Sleek a go?
