As I get older my needs from base products are definitely evolving. I'm a little over dewy finishes that are often associated with youth, preferring to opt for more coverage and a 'blurring effect' to provide the appearance of radiance when my skin is actually crying from neglect underneath. BB Creams have been big news for a number of years, but I often find the result incredibly 'wet' and a little too reflective - they don't tend to conceal dark circles or cover imperfections, meaning they're only an option when my skin is actually looking pretty good. La Roche-Posay's new Effaclar BB Blur is a great alternative (particularly for women tackling the first signs of ageing,) as it blurs the appearance of pores, blemishes and fine lines while providing a mattifying effect and long-term control of shine. Unlike other BBs, this is a genuine foundation alternative and incredibly effective at doing what it promises; it's the best base product I've tried in ages.
Effaclar BB Blur claims to be 'a new generation skincare hybrid' that has been specifically tailored for oily skin. Aircilium is a cutting-edge ingredient that absorbs three times its weight in oil, keeping the skin matte and unified with a velvet finish; it forms a supple and resistant film over the skin that smoothes its surface whilst letting it breathe, meaning it's even suitable for sensitive or dry skin types. Additionally, Perlite composed of silica is five times more powerful than talc in protecting against humidity - it offers a continuous blotting paper effect to keep oil at bay all day long. What's even better is that blurring technology scatters light to visibly fade pores and fine lines, providing an instantly smooth and yet still healthy looking complexion. The texture is incredibly lightweight and so easy to apply, gliding over the surface of skin and buffing in to leave me feeling confident without having to pile on the slap; there's minimal transference and wear throughout the day too, meaning I rarely need to touch-up.
Available in two shades (Fair/Light and Light/Medium,) the creamy mousse also contains shade adapting pigments that work to perfectly colour match the skin upon application; it may apply slightly too dark, but but the time I've buffed the BB Blur into my skin it's a perfect match. The texture does get some getting used to, especially as it's a mousse that's dispensed from a tube which has a tendency to fill with air, but it's definitely worth switching to from your usual heavy liquids. La Roche-Posay is a firm favourite amongst younger bloggers, so I often find it doesn't always provide the efficacy I need as I swiftly move towards my mid thirties - however, this little gem offers up the blurring effect that I crave without overloading the skin with things it doesn't need. You could definitely use this whatever your age, but it's absolutely ideal if you're trying to minimise those first signs of ageing and restore a unified glow. Plus, at £16.50 it's an affordable purchase too. It's only the first week of January, but I may have found one of 2016's highlights already!
