I'm always fascinated by brands that have stood the test of time, bringing a sprinkling of history into my regime - as well as a formula that's sure to provide results. However, so many of these brands that have been around for decades (if not centuries) pass most of us by without a second thought; it's easy to become absorbed in the fast paced and incredibly modern world of beauty. Bronnley have been producing quintessentially British fragrances since 1884, when its founder James traveled to Paris to study the art of perfume; he brought back with him what was to become an exquisite and widely celebrated brand that turns scent into an art form. Although many of these heritage brands become quite stuffy, unrelatable and extremely expensive over time, Bronnley is keeping things modern with the launch of their incredibly wearable (and affordable) Five Elements collection. They simply say: "To celebrate our heritage in true pioneering form, we introduce Eclectic Elements, a modern take on the romantic art of perfumery." If you love scent, but don't like to adorn yourself with the same thing as twenty other people around you at any one time, then this is a brand you need to know about.
In a world somewhat obsessed with celebrity scents, overly sweet or vanilla notes, it's refreshing to find a brand bucking the trend and keeping true to their roots. Not only are the Bronnley fragrances packaged in simple but elegant bottles, but their composition provides a really unique and unexpected result. The five perfumes that collectively makeup up the 'Eclectic Elements' collection are all unique, but beautiful in their own way; it's hard to choose between them because they all offer up something quite esquisite!
Bronnley say: "We have worked with master perfumers to bring together expert knowledge to create our new fragrance composition. The new distinct signature is the result of unusual ingredient mixes and unexpected textural feels to the notes, giving each scent within the collection drama, personality and ambience; with a distinctly bold yet vibrant and contemporary composition."
Within the collection is Wild Green, Citrene Lagoon, Crimson Cloud, Exotic Embers and Cosmic Bloom. It's hard to pick only one, but Wild Green has been a firm favourite during the transitioning weeks, while Exotic Embers is perfect for winter days. A breakdown of each of the notes is below, illustrating how unique and unusual these fragrances are.
WILD GREEN:
Orange Flower, Coriander Seed, Bergamot, Violet Leaf, Cardamom, Pink Pepper, Incense, Patchouli, Leather.
CITRENE LAGOON:
Grapefruit, Lemon, Marine Accord, Sea Lavender, Pink Pepper, Jasmine, Vetiver, Amber and Musk.
CRIMSON CLOUD:
Raspberry, Lemon Verbena, Bergamot, Cherry Blossom, Violet, Rose, Patchouli, Heliotrope, Amber.
EXOTIC EMBERS:
Bergamot, Ruby Orange, Galbanum, Tuberose, Ginger, Nutmeg, Labdanum, Cedarwood, Amber.
COSMIC BLOOM:
Bergamot, Cloudberry, Rhubarb, Black Violet, Freesia, Rose, Musk, Sandalwood and Vanilla.
At £35.00 each, Bronnley provides a much more affordable alternative to other quintessentially British fragrance brands such as Jo Malone or Molton Brown. The fundamental ideas are the same (combining unexpected elements to create a truly unique and desirable scent,) but Bronnley has got the history to back it up. I would never have looked at this brand in a million years, but it just goes to prove one quirky idea can make all the difference. Give them a sniff - you won't regret it.
