TREND ALERT: Wearable Coloured Lashes, With A Little Help From Lancôme Grandiose Mascara

Back in the 90's blue mascara was about as on-trend as it got. You just weren't cool if you weren't wearing clear mascara on your lower lashes and a touch of blue on your top, finished off with a slick of transparent lipgloss. The looks, trends and fashions of that decade are certainly having a comeback right now, but if you think you've got to be a teenager to get away with it you'd be wrong. Coloured mascaras may seem like a step too far out of your comfort zone, but thanks to brands like Lancome launching wearable shades that focus on enhancing a look or ensuring your eye colour pops, the look is far more mainstream than you may imagine.

Their Grandiose Mascara has been around for a little while (I reviewed it this time last year when it launched,) but it's still a great innovation that helps to create show-stopping lashes effortlessly. The re-imagined application technique includes a patent-pending 'Swan Neck', designed to effortlessly create perfectly open, full and even lashes. Although it looks a little scary and unnecessary, the bent wand actually aids application and enables you to grab lashes close to the root and fan them out for a wide-eyed finish. It also ensures every single lash is coated in product, even the little ones you can't necessarily see, to provide a serious amount of volume with no clumps in sight.

In 2015 they're re-imagining the mascara once again, with the addition of three new shades - a bronze, purple and electric blue. Although the swatches may seem quite intense, you can tell from the photo below the result on the eye is actually very subtle - so much so that it's not obvious you're not wearing black unless you get really close. These mascaras are much more than a trend though, as they've been designed to enhance the look of our eyes and ensure the focus is very much on our flutter: the bronze shade contains warm pigments that bring out radiant gold tones in the iris, accentuating eyes; the radiant violet tone helps to warm the eye colour while providing a more intense result; the electric blue shade enhances the white of the eye for a radiant effect - especially if you’ve blue eyes. I love them.

So many coloured mascaras are too intense to be worn on a day to day basis, but these allow you to dip into the trend in a much subtler way - while simultaneously enhancing your eyes. The mascara is well worth a purchase regardless (although the £24.50 price point is eye watering!) but these new shades put a wearable twist on the product. We wear coloured contact lenses, know which eyeshadows to wear for our complexions and apply eye drops to regain our sparkle - so why not take that a step further without actually having to do anything new? Challenge yourself to embrace colour this Autumn in a whole new way...

Would you give coloured mascaras a go? Do you use a blue, purple or brown mascara from any other brand right now that you think gives your eyes a little something extra?

The Lancôme Hypnôse Grandiôse Mascara is available now in three colours (blue, bronze, purple) as well as the classic black, priced £24.50. Find the colours at Lancômecounters nationwide.
