How many times have you picked out your usual portfolio of makeup and felt like you were in a little bit of a rut with your look? It's easy to stick to the same shades day-in-day-out, replacing the same product time and time again without shaking things up. Sometimes you need a helping hand or for someone to help you transition from one season to the next, ensuring you're both comfortable with your makeup look and that you're actually going to use the shades chosen - because that bright blue metallic shadow may seem like a great idea at the time, but after the first use it'll be shoved to the back of a drawer with all those other makeup regrets. This Autumn Laura Mercier have got you covered, as their ‘Eye-Con’ on-counter experience will leave you feeling excited about applying your morning makeup once more.

The ‘Eye-Con’ experience involves a thirty minute consultation with one of Laura Mercier’s leading international makeup artists; they'll talk you through the perfect shades, textures and techniques to enhance your eye shape and shake up your usual routine. They have a huge portfolio of colour (something I had no clue about until I visited their Selfridges flagship counter and was blown away,) so there's definitely something to get every one of you excited. After the consultation you'll choose, together with the makeup artist, a custom made palette to take away with you; it will include four eyeshadow shades, a cheek colour and an iconic Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Liner (which can only be used when wet,) as well as the mascara and pencil of your choice. I love the idea of this and think it's a great service if you're genuinely in need of a helping hand, or want to change things up as the new season approaches.
I opted for a portfolio of khaki, grey and taupe tones, as well as the Cake Liner (which could be my new obsession - apply wet to the underside of your lash line for an incredibly subtle, but lash enhancing result!) to keep my makeup looking on-trend for Autumn. The textures are incredibly soft, yet fabulously pigmented, plus this handy palette is the perfect way to keep them all together in one place. Considering each one of the eyeshadows/liners costs around £19.00-23.00 individually, plus the inclusion of a £19.50 mascara and £17.50 pencil, you're actually getting a pretty good deal; on average you'll save around £10.00, get the palette for free (usually £10.00), plus will benefit from one-to-one expert advice that's somewhat invaluable to those bumbling along and hoping for the best. Although this service won't be for everyone, it's a great way of forcing yourself to refresh your makeup routine - or just a great gift for a loved one. It's also a fabulous introduction to a brand I always assumed focused on skincare and base products, but actually has a lot more to offer.
What do you think of the 'Eye-Con' service? Is it something you'd try yourself?
