Damage is cited as the number one hair concern globally, which is no surprise seeing as we're a generation of over-heated-GHD-loving-electrical-appliance-obsessives. Continual styling, repeated straightening and endless dying all plays havoc with our hair, leaving ends looking tatty and dull. According to L'Oreal, 57% of women today are embracing longer hair - yet with every 12cm of hair having endured twelve months of heat styling, abrasive brushing and UV exposure, the hair fibre is prone to breakage and left hard to manage. If you've ever wanted to grow your hair just an inch or two longer, but have to chop off the ends because they just look so horrendous, then you need to know about the new L'Oreal Professionnel treatment that's about to change the game. Cited as a 'haircure' that cares for your hair like a manicure cares for your hands, Pro Fiber is L'Oreal's most prescriptive professional treatment programme to combat multi levels of damage across all hair types. It starts in salon and is re-charged at home, meaning you not only step out of the salon with fabulous hair - but you can boost the effect every week with a little at-home treatment too.
Enriched with L'Oreal's exclusive Aptyl 100 Melecular Complex (with over seven years of research and with seven patents pending, this is serious stuff!) Pro Fiber is the latest professional product to hit salons nationwide; it will definitely be a game-changer. The bespoke programme starts exclusively in-salon with a consultation with your hairdresser, who will analyse the level of thickness and damage to your hair before prescribing the perfect treatment for you. With three ranges designed for different levels of damage (Revive, Restore and Recover for light, medium and heavy damage,) the results won't be overwhelming or detrimental - there's no chance of overloading the surface or causing limpness, which often is the result of an intense treatment.
The new technology enables the treatment to penetrate and lastingly grip the hair fibre from the inside out. Aminosilane, a wonder ingredient, reinforces the hair structure through a three-dimensional network (essentially filling in any holes in each individual hair strand that are the result of damage,) while cationic polymers act as a protective sheath, covering the hair’s surface and leaving a soft silky feel. Most treatments 'wash in and wash out', meaning you leave the salon feeling great but are soon brought back down to earth as soon as you shampoo your hair at home. L'Oreal's Pro Fiber is different not only because the technology works from the inside (rather than just on the surface of hair,) but because you're constantly boosting the results over the course of six weeks too.
The process is simple: hair is washed and the relevant treatment is applied to the areas that need a helping hand, before an intense masque is massaged in and left for five minutes. After the treatment is washed out and hair is dried, it instantly feels soft, frizz-free and 'freshly-cut' - I couldn't believe how much the ends of my hair had been 'repaired' in one treatment, looking like I'd had a trim without a pair of scissors even going near me. The result was super shiny, bouncy and healthy looking hair that I was astounded by; normally I politely smile through the end of a treatment thinking 'well that didn't do much', but Pro Fiber left me pretty much open mouthed. The ends of my hair were looking dull, damaged, broken and in need of a good trim - but after thirty minutes in the hairdresser's chair and an intensive treatment later, they were good as new.
But it doesn’t end there; within the price of the treatment (£60.00) you're provided with the full range of products to use at home, so you can continue to use the prescribed hair care programme over the next six weeks. It's the perfect way to keep your salon-fresh look for longer. The shampoo, conditioner, masque and leave-in treatment ensure hair is well protected and looked after (each of the products contains ingredients to ensure the results of the in-salon treatment are maintained,) while the Re-Charge booster can be used every four shampoos as a substitute to your usual conditioner or masque. This is the same formula as the in-salon treatment, meaning you're constantly re-energising and re-igniting the effects that you first saw. It’s the first repairing treatment that offers long-lasting, infinitely re-activatable haircare.
The products themselves are a pleasure to use and smell great, providing me with bouncy and shiny looking hair every time I blow-dry. The little treatment vials provide more than enough to cover the mids-to-ends of my hair, re-igniting the effects and providing a little boost that helps the ends of my locks to look refreshed. Although the results aren't quite the same as in the hairdresser, I'd say I can achieve about 60-75% of the finish I first saw in salon just by keeping up the weekly boosts. It's an easy to use, effective, affordable and sweet smelling regime that I'm totally bought into. As someone who's had hair extensions for the best part of a year (yes this is even suitable for extensions!) to help my own hair to grow out from that awkward mid-style stage, this is definitely something I would have opted for just to stop me going for the chop and having to start all over again. This programme would be great for those of you with blonde, over-styled, dry or simply needs-a-boost hair; it's the simplest (but most technological advanced) way to achieve fabulous hair.
The L'Oreal Pro Fiber treatment is available in salons nationwide, priced around £60.00 - dependent upon individual salons. That price also includes the shampoo, conditioner, masque, leave-in and re-boosting treatments to use at home.
