Fit For An Italian: The New Dolce & Gabbana Fall Makeup Collection

If you've ever stepped into a D&G store then you'll know their fashion is all about bold patterns, striking shades and that classic 'too much is just about right' attitude. The Italian women are vivacious, colourful, confident and a little OTT - so they need makeup to match. Dolce & Gabbana cosmetics aren't widely available in the UK, but if you're ever wondering through the Harrods beauty halls then it's well worth a look. This Autumn they're once again putting a twist on the classic tones you may expect, dialing up the glam and ensuring there's a tone for every woman's inner vixen; for summer they offered blue and gold lips (as you do,) but for autumn they're channeling a classic red with a touch of purple for good measure. Because D&G wouldn't be D&G without a touch of the ridiculous...

The collection includes an eyeshadow palette, three lipsticks, a purple gloss, cream eyeshadow pots and a trio of nail colours. Although collectively the tones look quite bold and brash, individually they're all very wearable (in the right way) - even the purple! The eyeshadow palette colours would look hideous worn together, but when used to create a twist on a smokey eye using the delicious tones of the cream eyeshadow pots, the result is actually beautiful. The pots provide a rich texture that's easy to blend and crease-free, while the eyeshadow quad offers a silky-touch formula that applies to the lid with ease; I've been looking for an alternative to my beloved Illamasqua limited edition cream eyeshadows and these are just the ticket.

As you would expect with a brand that hails from Italia, there's a bold red lipstick to tie everything together. However, the nude tone is the perfect antidote to such a striking colour while the purple adds a fashion forward twist. A deep berry-stained lip isn't for everyone, but when the rest of your look is kept minimalistic it can definitely work! Additionally the three nail colours are delightful, providing a trio that will get you through to the next season with ease. The grey-blue tone is my new fave, the nude is a handy day-to-day go-to, while the bold blue would look awesome with a pair of blue jeans and a white tee. I was pleasantly surprised with the Dolce & Gabbana polish, as the majority of designer brands focus on the pack and not so much the formula; however, these apply beautifully and provide a rich colour that doesn't chip easily.

This collection is pure indulgence and everything I love about luxury beauty; it's not about what you need, it's about what you want. Decadent gold packaging, extravagant tones, rich formulas and something a little de jour about the whole look. Although it's not often one can justify £20.00 on a nail polish or £46.00 on an eyeshadow palette, sometimes you just need to say LO VOGLIO! (That's 'I want it' in Italian...)
