With a new season comes the need to change up our beauty regime, colour portfolio and overall look. Although we could just embrace the same old tones and the usual styles, it's much more fun to look to what's been happening on the catwalk and transfer the hot new trends into our own lives (ensuring they're actually wearable without being on the receiving end of some rather odd looks!) I've pinpointed the five key trends that will help transform you from spring chicken into summer goddess - all of which require a minimum amount of effort and a perfectly suited to the holiday season.
Dewy Sunkissed Skin
Complexions were decidedly dewy at the likes of Marni, Simone Rocha and Donna Karan, with the word 'sweaty' even being used by Marc Jacobs. Ditch the heavy foundations and mattifying powders in favour of a light-reflecting base or BB Cream - go totally nude if you're feeling brave, adding just a touch of concealer over imperfections and under eyes. Highlighter is key to achieving this look, as is a fantastic base; mix a facial oil in with your moisturiser for a healthy glow, adding a dab of cream highlighter over the cheekbones to finish.
Fine Lines
Seen all over the catwalks in a multitude of sizes, a flick of black liquid liner is the ultimate summer accessory. Paid with a natural sunkissed complexion, it's the perfect way to ensure you look 'done' without trying too hard. I love this look all year round, but it's great for adding a touch of subtle glamour underneath your sunglasses. For a super smooth and elegant line, start at the middle and draw a fine line across the base of your lid towards the outer corner; join up the inner corner with the middle before creating your 'flick' in the form of a triangle. If it's good enough for Saint Laurent, Prada, Celine and Pucci...
Bushy Brows
Miss Delevigne certainly started a trend that's not going anywhere soon. Thin and overly styled brows are definitely out this season, with rogue bushy numbers replacing their precision; Givenchy, Chloe and Valentino showed us how it's done perfectly. Let your brows grow out a little and focus on filling them in using a pencil or gel, giving the illusion of a fuller arch that instantly creates a more youthful look. However, be careful not to let them get out of hand - plucking the odd hair out from underneath will still ensure a relatively precise line without overdoing it.
A Flash Of Colour
If you prefer to keep your summer look simple, then embrace just a hint of colour around the eyes or on the nails. For maximum effect, keep the rest of your look understated in order to let the bold tones do the talking. Wear across your lids a la Christian Dior, in the corner of eyes like the models at Elie Saab, or pick up a bright polish to adorn your nails with this season's hottest shade. Orange, yellow, turquoise and hot pink were firm favourites with the beauty editors this season.
Up-All-Night Hair
The slept-in look was paired with strong smokey eyes at Tom Ford and Chanel, while Victoria Beckham and Vera Wang kept their look understated by embracing their models' natural waves. This is 'beachy waves' for a new era, without the crunchy salt spray or sticky residue... Create the look by tonging your hair in small sections for thirty seconds and using your fingers to 'rough it up' a bit. Spritz in some lightweight hairspray that doesn't crunch, as well as using a touch of dry shampoo at the root to lift hair and create volume. For an even more smouldering look, spray some dry shampoo into the palm of your hand and apply a little to the mids and ends of hair with your fingers.
