Why I'm A Glossybox Convert (Plus A Preview Of Their July & Christmas Boxes)

Four years ago a concept launched into the UK that would change the face of beauty forever. The Glossybox subscription service was heralded as the most innovative idea in years, delivering thousands of monthly teasers and samples to women across the country - all with the aim of encouraging discovery and injecting passion back into beauty. Women signed up in their droves and the copycats soon followed, inevitably leaving disappointment to set in as the boxes soon began to lose their sparkle; all of a sudden Glossybox became somewhat of a dirty word. However, four years down the line they're pushing boundaries and bringing it all back to basics: their focus is very much on creating amazing collaborations, innovative content and providing a platform for women to discover fabulous products and brands that they may never know about otherwise. This July they're definitely doing just that, with the launch of their special edition Vive La France box (illustrated beautifully by LA-based artist Jamie Lee Reardin) which contains seven fabulous products you'll be coveting... But don't worry, no spoilers here!

Every July, Glossybox launch a special edition box with an extra layer of sparkle to celebrate the forthcoming summer. In 2015 it's the turn of France, with the box containing a multitude of brands to tickle your fancy - there's a reason French pharmacy brands are incredibly on-trend right now, and the contents of July's box are a treat for the senses. Featuring some favourite brands and familiar names, as well as some great discoveries and treats for the senses, this is definitely a great intro if you've not tried the subscription service before. I won't give the surprise away, but suffice to say your skin will be in for a treat... And there's not a nail polish in sight! (Apparently, it's the most hated item in every box. Surprising but true!) The box has been illustrated by the amazing Jamie Lee Reardin, who has worked with French fashion houses Dior, Chanel and Balmain; the attention to detail is incredible, making this a box you're going to want to keep and treasure. Her style is so unique that it's no surprise she's being snapped up by some of the biggest global names, having created content for publications across the world after being discovered on Instagram. (Make sure you follow her here!) She was kind enough to even create an illustration of my profile picture, which I absolutely adore and will be framing above my desk in no time at all...!

With 1 box sold every 12 seconds and over 7 million boxes sold to date across eleven different countries, Glossybox are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Having partnered with over 600 international brands to reach more than 200,000 subscribers monthly (they're three times bigger in the UK than their nearest competitor,) the glossy pack is much bigger than you ever could have imagined. Although they've admitted to having lost their way a little in the past (their operation is a huge logistical nightmare,) there are huge things ahead for this powerhouse of beauty - including the most exciting beauty box collaboration I think there has ever been. This November, just in time for Christmas, Glossybox are partnering up with NARS to launch a limited edition box which includes five makeup favourites to tickle your fancy. Including their cult Orgasm blush, a mini multiple that's not available anywhere else in the world and a not-yet-released mascara, this is going to sell out in minutes. There are only 3000 available, priced £30.00 (or £35.00 for non subscribers,) so if you want to get one when they launch at the end of the November stay glued to all forms of social media to be the first to know how to snap one up. (A sneaky look below!)

I've been incredibly cynical of beauty boxes in the past, but I think collectively we all forgot what the concept was born to deliver: discovery. It's not about getting loads of makeup for a tenner a month, but about trying new things and expanding your repertoire. Nobody is going to love everything every time, but knowing you're guaranteed to at the very least always be presented with more value than you paid for the box, you've really got nothing to lose. Considering £10.00 gets you little more than a coffee and slice of cake, it's a small price to pay for a delivery of treats to your door. I can't wait to see what Glossybox have in store over the coming months and years - but these two collaborations will definitely be hard to beat!
