Fan Of Clinique's Chubby Highlighter? Five Alternatives To Suit Every Budget

If you've ever lusted over that 'model glow' staring back at you from the swimwear pages of a magazine, then it's time to invest in a great highlighter. Applying a shimmering cream to the top of cheekbones really does create radiance; we naturally associate radiance with youth and well-being, so a delicate touch can really make an overwhelming difference to your look. Applying it as the final product (over your base and powder) will ensure it catches the light and blends in with the rest of your makeup; I like to dab a little on the tops of my cheeks from the inner corner and out towards the tops of my ears. (I wrote about my love for highlighters and how you can use them all year round here.) Although powders are great for the colder months, come summer a creamy formula helps to keep the result super natural and radiant - which is why Clinique's Chubby Stick Highlighter (£19.00) has become so popular in the last few months. The easy-to-apply formula and creamy texture make highlighting a doddle - but there are lots of other products that do the job just as well for a more affordable price point. Here are five of my current favourite dupes, just for you...

1. Benefit Watt's Up (£24.50)
Ok, ok, I know that this is more expensive than the original, but it's really quite fabulous and offers an easy way to achieve radiant skin. It's definitely my go-to highlighter all year round, proven by the fact that this is in fact my third stick since it launched a couple of years ago. I love the understated tone and workable texture, as well as the little buffer at the end to help blend the formula effortlessly. You actually get over 50% more product than the Clinique Chubby (6g vs 9.4g) so it's well worth a few extra quid if you're making the investment.

2. No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter (£9.95)
Another firm favourite of mine and the best dupe I've ever come across for the Chubby Highlighter, this stick is so easy to work with and offers a tone that suits my super-pale skin. You can really blend this or dab onto the tops of cheekbones for a natural glow; it works equally as well on bare skin as it does over a full face of makeup - plus it stays put all day long.

3. Kiko Glow Blush & Highlighter (£8.90)
Quickly becoming the go-to brand when you're after a dupe, a little inspiration or just an affordable treat, Kiko haven't let me down when it comes to highlighters. This little stick includes a luminous highlighter that's totally universal, as well as a touch of colour too - it's a great multi-purpose product for when you're in a rush, or simply don't want to faff around too much with your makeup. My top tip with this is to apply to the back of your hand and use your fingers to dab it exactly where you need it; applying direct to the cheeks requires a little more precision that I'm able to produce at 8am!

4. The Body Shop Honey Bronze Highlighting Dome (£8.00)
Available in three shades, this little dome is really quite wondrous. It's perfectly shaped to fit the contour of the face, meaning you can apply it directly to cheekbones and buff in with your index finger. It's not really shimmery or full of glitter, just an understated golden shade that helps to catch the light and inject a radiant glow. I love the subtly of the colour and the fact there's a tone for all complexions, plus it's super handbag friendly and perfectly sized for hand luggage.

5. Topshop Glow Dome (£9.00)
Launched just in time for festival season, the slightly unusual colour hides a really wearable tone that looks awesome in conjunction with a touch of bronzer. Having been designed to be worn as the sun is setting over Glastonbury, this is definitely a product for the younger crowd who like to push the boundaries. I would definitely hold off on this until you're a little bit sunkissed (natural or otherwise,) but it's gonna be fab for my trip to St Tropez next week...
