My love for home fragrances isn't one that goes unnoticed, with candles and burners on every surface of my home ready to create a relaxing or uplifting atmosphere. Since her departure from the iconic self-named brand, Jo Malone has been beavering away creating a new concept in fragrance that takes things back to basics: 'Jo Loves' not only offers incredible perfumes, delicious body lotions and perfect home scents, but a portfolio of beautifully unusual candles that ensures a completely unique experience. The launch of the Jo Loves 'Shot Candles' is a truly unique concept which builds upon the popularity of her candles, combining two fragrances that are handpicked by the creator - you! Available in both her flagship London store and online, these special pots provide a special moment to those that have the pleasure of being the candle maker for one day only.

The first step is to choose a base from either Mint Mojito, Charcoaled Lemons, Tahitian Gardenia or Fig Trees; this is essentially the candle pot and base with a hole for the 'shot' to fit into. The second step is to choose a 'shot' of fragrance to complete the candle from either of the four bases previously mentioned, or Mango, Lemongrass and Petitgrain in addition. These two elements are then joined together to complete your finished candle. The beauty is in the fact that after the initial wax 'lid' is burned away, the two fragrances combine to provide a scent that's created specifically for you - with hundreds of different combinations, your bespoke candle is just a little bit magical. Jo Malone herself says: "The Shot Candle is such an exciting innovation which we create together. This is the first time I have designed a product which invites you to become part of the creative process and make a candle unique to you."
For my candle, I chose a base of Mint Mojito with a shot of Mango - the result is fruity, juicy, energising and perfect for summer evenings. I love the idea and adore the creative process; there's nothing else like this available, but I've no doubt we'll see lots of concepts 'inspired' by Jo's lightbulb moment in the years to come. At £75.00 per candle this is definitely a hugely indulgent treat, but it would be a fantastic wedding gift or a fabulous birthday experience for a loved one. As Jo herself is more often than not in the store, it's the perfect excuse to get some one-to-one time with a hugely respected figure in the beauty industry while simultaneously creating your perfect home fragrance. Sometimes a product is worth it's huge price tag because of the experience that it brings - this is definitely one of those times.
