My skincare collection is possibly bigger than Boots, offering me everything I could ever need and more at arms length. Because face creams, serums, toners and such like take such a long time to put to the test (you really need at least 4-6 weeks to see a difference,) it minimises the amount I can actually trial and review effectively within a set period of time. Murad had been a brand on my radar for some time, but in all honestly I didn't think it was for me - I had a perception of it being overly-clinical, too expensive and just not relevant to my age or lifestyle. A few months later and I've had to eat my words, having finally embarked on a fully immersive Murad experience; a couple of serums, moisturisers, night cream, toner, SPF and facial later and I'm 100% a convert. As America's first authentic doctor developed brand that set the tone for the hundreds that followed, Murad remains true to the scientific principles of its founder (world renowned dermatologist Howard Murad, M.D) while ensuring it's helping people look and feel their best.
Murad break down their products into colour coded and easy to understand categories, making it easy to shop and ensure you're getting the results you need. Unlike other brands who mostly categorise simply by age, Murad operate a problem-solution approach - you can shop by concerns including blemishes, loss of firmness, fine lines, redness, or simply opt for products that help you maintain the skin you have. As a true dermatologist brand that began with prescription formulas developed by Dr. Murad to help his patients resolve their unrelenting skin conditions, Murad products still feature clinical-strength ingredients blended into recipes that are so advanced that Murad has been awarded eighteen patents. It's like an appointment with a dermatologist without the expense. Can you see why I thought this brand was a bit scary?
If you're thinking that Murad formulas will be harsh, uncomfortable, full of scary skin peeling ingredients and leave you looking like a member of the 'Wives of Beverly Hills' club, you couldn't be more wrong. They're incredibly gentle, an absolute pleasure to use and leave skin feeling pretty amazing. I adore the Essential C-Toner (£25.00) which conditions your skin and restores balance with ingredients including orange and coneflower extract to gently hydrate. The blend of witch hazel and sodium PCA, a natural occurring skin moisturiser, also helps to tighten pores without drying skin; you simply spritz a small amount onto a cotton bud and wipe over your face morning and night.
The Age-Balancing Moisture moisturiser (£59.50) is great for every day use, while still being light enough to use under makeup. Resurrection plant proteins help to restore moisture and provide a barrier to keep skin hydrated and plump, while shea butter and natural fruit oils replenish dull, dry skin with long-lasting hydration. The formula also contains SPF30 to protect skin from sun damage, meaning it's the perfect daily moisturiser to ensure you keep your skin looking its best. You need such a small amount that I've barely touched the sides of this tube a couple months later.
In addition, the Rapid Collagen Infusion serum (£65.00) has been designed to help promote healthy collagen and hydration levels, immediately restoring a more youthful appearance and fresh complexion. The velvety serum uses micronised collagen amino acids to penetrate the skin for intense hydration and incredible plumping; perfect for mature skin in need of a lift, this anti-ageing product also improves volume and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Although I'm only 32, this definitely makes a little difference to my skin and ensures I can apply targeted skincare without worrying about it interfering with my makeup.
What's even better is that this spring Murad will offer customers a special edition of this hero product, in association with their first charity partner: The Prince’s Trust. With every limited-edition Rapid Collagen Infusion sold, £10 will be donated to The Prince’s Trust to help them continue their great work - great skin, plus simultaneously doing some good! If you're hitting a new phase in your life and are in need of a little expert helping hand, then Murad definitely offers products that are clinically proven to provide the results you need; their in-store advisors are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, while their facials offer a great intro into the brand and hands-on experience. It's not often that I backtrack on my perception of a brand, but in this case Murad have totally won me over... Expect lots more from this skincare genius on LBQ in the future.
