A great hairdo can mean the difference between hiding away and strutting your stuff; there's something intangible about a great hair day that really does have an incredible impact upon our confidence. I know that I often (metaphorically and actually) hide away if my hair isn't playing ball, but I'm the first one out into the world with my lipstick on if my barnet is working that morning. After having extensions fitted a couple years ago and loving the results, but hating the maintenance and expense, I took the jump into getting Kapello tapes fitted last September. Not only are they much more affordable, but the maintenance is so much easier than individually bonded extensions. The tapes work with your natural hair and lay flat against your scalp, minimising the drag or potential damage on hair that's often caused by concentrated pressure and ensuring they're totally undetectable. I don't feel like I'm wearing extensions, it just feels (and looks) like I've got fabulous hair. After eight months and three re-fittings, here's why I'm such an advocate of these innovative extensions.
1. They're Affordable
My first experience of hair extensions was a bespoke blending service intended for those suffering post-chemotherapy or with trichotillomania. Although this provided a beautiful and perfectly matched result, the price point (over £1500) was incredibly prohibitive. Kapello hair extensions are in the region of £500 and last up to a year, with quarterly re-bonding (about £350-400) recommended to keep your hair looking fabulous as they grow out. Even though this still isn't cheap, considering I have mine fitted in Errol Douglas' Knightsbridge salon, it's really rather a good deal. Compared to friends who have opted for local salons or their usual hairdresser and parted with £600+ for a dodgy do, Kapello offer an amazing alternative that isn't so hard on your wallet.
2. They're Quick To Fit
The application is so quick and easy, thanks to the 'tape' technology that allows your technician to apply direct to the root of the hair without any gluing or bonding. It sounds quite odd, but my tapes have lasted for up to four months without a single one falling out! This technique really speeds up the process and I can be in and out within two hours (which involves removing every extension, cleaning and washing them, applying a treatment to my hair, re-bonding the extensions, giving everything a bit of a trim and a style,) compared to the full seven hour experience I previously had. I'm a busy woman and I don't have a whole day to spend in the salon, so these make my life incredibly easy while still providing a couple of hours of chill out time.
3. They're Easy To Style
Because they're made with the highest quality natural hair, the extensions are easy to style and don't take an age to get used to. You can straighten them, tong them, curl them... It's just as easy as styling your normal hair, just with more volume. I really struggled with my extensions before, because of the huge volume of hair to style on my head, but Kapello seem to offer the same great result without weighing everything down - it took next to no time to get used to having them. I create all sorts of looks with the additional length and nobody ever knows they're extensions (which I guess is the idea!)
4. They're Lightweight
Thanks to the tape technology, there's no small pressure point on which the bond is clinging to - it's spread over a much larger surface area. The featherlight weight of the tape (versus heavy glue bonds that pull and feel heavy,) the result is practically undetectable; you simply forget you have them. There's no additional weight on my head to get used to, nor do the extensions hang in an unnatural way because of their density. The weight of extensions is never really discussed and it's the thing I struggled with most initially, even almost booking an appointment within a week to have them removed, but there's been no such drama with Kapello - I just keep going back for more!
5. They're Perfectly Matched
Although they're pre-bonded tapes, there's a multitude of colours to choose from to ensure your perfect match. Initially I had red hair and they had four different tones to choose from, which is really rare for pre-bonded extensions. Even if there isn't a colour to perfectly blend in with your current tone, they can be dyed to ensure that's possible - they absorb colour in the same way as your own hair too, meaning you can even dye them and change colour if you get a little impulsive.
Would you consider Kapello hair extensions as an alternative to pre-bonded ones?
NB: Although I received the first application free of charge for review, I have paid for all future services and appointments - and will continue to do so.
Hair cut and styled by Richard Ward salon in Chelsea - I fancied a bit of a chop and love the thickness the slightly shorter length provides me with!
