Start Your Beauty Routine In The Shower With Five Simple Steps

We all do it: roll out of bed, grab a towel, turn on the shower, jump in and stand there for ten minutes wishing we were still between the sheets. Although early mornings can be somewhat painful, you can turn that frown upside down by injecting some much needed goodness into those otherwise wasted minutes. Sulking with water running down your face won't do anyone any good, but utilising your morning shower to take care of your body will really pay dividends in the long term. There are lots of small things you can do that will make a big cumulative difference overall, so why not start your beauty regime in the shower with my five top tips...

1. Use A Cleanser That Cares
You could use any old shower gel, or you could opt for a body wash that will comfort your skin while you cleanse. The newly reformulated Dove Body Wash helps to both smooth skin and strengthen its moisture barrier, for longer term results you can treasure. There are no harsh cleansers, only ingredients that have been proven to offer you the skin you want from the very first wash; lathering the rich cream up and massaging it gently over skin will kick-start your morning and help your limbs to feel fabulous.

2. Treat Yourself
Swapping your conditioner for an intense treatment two or three times a week will help inject extra goodness into your hair while you focus on other areas; the shower’s heat and steam will help the deep conditioner penetrate strands for maximum results, meaning you could step out of the shower with bouncy beautiful hair. Why not add a face mask into the mix too, for added skin benefits? Gel-based masks trump creamy versions in the shower; they’re emollient but won’t slide off wet skin - just pop one on for five minutes while you shave your legs and it's job done.

3. Brushing Up
Dry brushing is a great thing to integrate into your morning shower, as it's a really effective way to stimulate skin cells and improve circulation. It also aids the flow of lymphatic fluid, which flushes away toxins, and sloughs off dead skin cells to reveal the glowing skin beneath. Always brush in motions away from the heart, focusing on especially dry areas or those pesky bits of cellulite: it's amazing how much difference this can make to 'chicken skin' on the tops of arms, as well as prepping your skin for the warmer months.

4. Rub Excess In
Once you've applied your hair treatment or face mask, try rubbing any leftover product from your hands into cuticles and the heels of your feet. Many of the ingredients will help to hydrate and condition those pesky dry bits we forget about, while simultaneously using up the last bits you can never quite transfer from hand to hair. Leave the product to get to work while you do your thing and just rinse off before you get out of the shower; you'll be surprised how much difference this will make if you do it every day for a week.

5. A Shot In The Shower
It's well documented that cold water helps to 'close' the hair cuticle and add shine, but it's often something we leave to the hairdresser - when we're somewhat forced into it with gritted teeth! Once you've washed, conditioned and/or treated hair, tip your head back and gently rinse with a shot of cold water for a 'hairdresser finish' from home. This will help to 'seal' the hair for not only a smoother finish, but added shine and a minimum amount of frizz, cutting styling time too.
