They may have been around for a little while, continually launching innovative collections and lust-worthy dupes, but until recently I hadn't really gotten to grips with Kiko. Sure enough all their new launches regularly land on my doorstep, but I'd never spent some serious time playing with the products and picking out the pieces from the 'core' range that genuinely interested me - until I popped along to their flagship store on London's Regent Street. Located within about ten paces from Oxford Circus tube, the bustling and vibrant store is absolutely saturated with as much makeup that's physically possible to put into a small square shape. Eyeshadows adorning the walls, lipsticks covering the counters, spinning units showcasing accessories and a whole skincare department, there was so much to get stuck into I barely knew where to start... But I got stuck in nonetheless. All these goodies set me back about £78.00, which considering I picked up twelve items and got three free nail varnishes thrown in for good measure, isn't bad at all. Here's the lowdown on what I bought and what's worth checking out either in-store or online when you need a makeup fix.
I'm a big lipstick lover, but I hate the dry feeling the can sometimes leave on your lips; the Glossy Stylo (£4.90) is really shiny and smooth to apply, while not scrimping on pigment. Although they don't offer any hydrating benefits, they do contain SPF15 and come in 21 different colours - they decision making process was so hard that I ended up with two! I love this nude brown which is fab for chucking in my bag, while the pop of pink will be great for the summer months.
A product I picked up almost because it just looks pretty, was the Glow Blush & Highlighter Stick (£8.90) which combines the best of both in an easy-to-use format. One swipe over the cheeks provides a subtle finish and radiant glow, while the texture isn't too greasy or shiny to buff into the skin. It works brilliantly over a dewy foundation, but can also be dabbed on throughout the day with an index finger; it's not easy to use the two shades individually, so it's best to embrace the dual function!
Kiko's Dark Circle Tone Eraser (£8.90) is a pump action pot of slightly yellow liquid, that when dabbed under eyes really does help to lift dark tones and cover imperfections. On a really tired day I do need to use this in conjunction with a touch of creamy concealer, but on a lazy Sunday afternoon it's enough to get me through. The Ultra Tech Curve Mascara (£5.20) is an absolute bargain too, providing lifted and defined lashes with no clumping - it's great at creating a natural result with added impact, similar to the 17 Doll'ed Up mascara I love to death; at a fiver this is one I'm going to stock up on indefinitely.
The eyeshadow portfolio within Kiko is possibly the most expansive I've ever experienced; there's every format, effect and colour you can imagine - then another 100 just for good measure. I narrowed my selection down to a beautiful taupe Long-Lasting Eyshadow Stick (£6.90) which is fabulous at creating a flawless and understated base, and a Water Eyeshadow (£8.90) in a beautiful khaki tone. These individual eyeshadows can be used either wet or dry, providing the most beautiful finish and a really workable pigment - this shade looks amazing buffed into my lid with a simple slick of black mascara.
Kiko isn't just about makeup though, as they hold a huge range of skincare, nail care and accessories. I picked up a super rich Night Balm (£5.90) for the lips and Intensive Hand Balm (£5.90) for dry digits, both of which are great to apply before bed. They offer instant relief and a luxurious texture, helping to get to work as you sleep; they don't have me waking up feeling like a new woman, but they do help inject a bit of goodness while being incredibly affordable. I also couldn't resist a bottle of their Skin Tone Corrector Primer (£9.90), which is available in violet to counteract dullness and yellow tones, green for redness and peach for a healthy glow. Although it doesn't compare to my favourite YSL formula, it's a great texture to use daily while offering priming benefits - and you get an awful lot for your money.
While I was perusing I also picked up some eyeliners, a cuticle remover and a few other bits and bobs which were all incredibly affordable, making the whole trip rather fruitful. I'm amazed at the quality of products for their price point, as well as the vast portfolio on offer - even the eyeshadow collection is worth a look alone. I don't often get an opportunity to shop in store, but on this occasion I'm so glad I did... I discovered so many gems, really got to grips with the brand and had an experience that left me loving Kiko just a little bit more. If you're ever in the neighbourhood then their store is well worth a visit; if not, then their website could become your new digital obsession.
