If I step out without a hand cream my mind goes into a mild state of panic. How can I go about my business with dry, uncomfortable and slightly scaly hands? What will the man in Starbucks think of my dehydrated digits when I pass over that five pound note? Although it may be a little dramatic, I'm simply addicted to hand creams and lotions - I must apply hand cream at least five times a day, sometimes more if I'm at my desk and surrounded by the stuff. Although I love a good smelling formula and a super rich finish, three hand creams have come onto my radar that offer slightly more than your average. These are 'super' hand creams with a difference that really do combine to look after your skin.
1. E45 Repair & Protect Overnight Hand Cream (£3.99)
When applied liberally before bed and left to work as you sleep, E45 Repair & Protect Overnight Hand Cream helps to enhance skin’s cell repair and regeneration overnight. The fragrance free formula contains Vitamin B3 to help in the production of cells, so the skin on your hands can 'regenerate' while you sleep. My hands are left looking refreshed and definitely feel smoother when I wake up, making this a great treat to apply before bed - it's much lighter than you may imagine and incredibly affordable too. 2. Liz Earle Superskin Hand Serum (£18.75)
Rich in omega-3 and antioxidants, the Superskin Hand Serum has been formulated to benefit both mature and very dry skin in need of a boost. Including naturally active ingredients such as kigelia extract, cranberry seed, organic rosehip and borage seed oil, the formula helps to smooth and soften skin throughout the day. Definitely more of an intense treatment to enjoy of an evening, the scent of chamomile, neroli and lavender is perfect to help relax your senses while you massage the formula in. This is a product I turn to when my hands are in need of serious soothing, or when I've forgotten to pop a tube in my bag during the day.
3. MeruMaya Hydrate & Protect Hand Cream (£12.50)
It’s well known that one of the first signs of ageing appears on our hands, but it’s the hardest area to tackle - even Madonna hasn’t got it right yet! This formula is rich in hyaluronic acid to help address the complexity of lasting moisturisation, while helping to firm the skin. It also contains SPF15 to guard against UVA/UVB damage that can hasten the ageing of skin, while the rich formula is extremely soothing. I’ve a lot of love for this brand, especially as they make effective products that are also really affordable, and this is the perfect product for those of us concerned with this often neglected area of the body.
