I've always loved my sleep. As a toddler my mum used to find me curled up in any space I could find, just catching fifty winks after a long and hard day watching CBBC - not much has changed thirty years later. As we spend roughly eight hours a day in bed getting some shut eye, it seems totally logical to me to ensure that time is used as efficiently as possible and is a continuation of my beauty routine; why waste that valuable time when you could be pampering and preening while you snooze, helping you to awake feeling refreshed and looking fabulous? Night creams are one thing, but I want a little bit more from my sleep every so often - so these are the six products I'm currently turning to that give me a helping hand while I'm getting some shut eye.
1. Faust's Asleep Potion (From £5.99)
The first step in my bedtime routine is to drink one of these little vials of goodness; they may be designed to overcome the impact of a hangover, but they're also great at helping me get a great night's sleep. Containing powerful anti oxidants that neutralise toxic byproducts and electrolytes to help rehydrate the body and replace lost minerals, this little vial is great to take if you've had a busy day and need to shut off from the world. Available in a duo with an 'Awake' potion to help kick-start your day for £5.99, or in a pack of five for £12.75, these are must-haves for anyone that wants to feel their best every morning with no effort required.
2. Dr Lewinn's Skin Renewal Overnight Exfoliator (£36.00)
This oil free, non-abrasive overnight exfoliator helps to improve the appearance of the skin's tone and texture. It contains 'natural AHA' to help remove dead and dull skin from the surface, as well as Vitamin A to help rejuvinate skin and ensure it's working as effectively as possible. The gel-like texture can be applied a couple of times a week liberally to skin, leaving it to dry into an almost invisible and undetectable mask in around ten minutes. You simply wash it off in the shower the next morning and you've given yourself a mini-facial as you sleep! There's no tingling or uncomfortable sensation, but I definitely notice a subtle difference in texture after using it.
3. Weleda Evening Primrose Lip Cream (£23.95)
Although technically not designed as an overnight treatment, when applied before bed it really gives enough time for it to get to work - without having to compromise on your lipstick or gloss. Designed to help reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles, whilst tightening the contours around the lips that occur with age, this is a great intensive treatment for tired and chapped lips that are in need of a little boost. After a good night's sleep it leaves lips looking healthier and smoother, while injecting some goodness that have may have been lost during the day. It's lightweight, soothing and doesn't leave a nasty taste in your mouth!
4. Living Nature Radiance Night Oil (£41.09)
A precious facial oil blend that boosts skin's renewal process, this can be added to any one of your other skincare products to give it a little boost. A couple of drops in your night cream will help skin to feel even more rejuvinated the following morning, while a drop in hand cream will help your hands to feel super soft. I find it a bit too rich and 'oily' to use alone, but I love the fact it can be used practically anywhere and with any other product. With rose oil to stimulate skin's collagen production, rosehip oil to aid cell regeneration and repair damaged skin tissue, calendula to soothe and calm, carrot oil to revitalise and tone, jojoba oil to nourish, and frankincense oil to repair dry skin and heal blemishes, this really is a one stop shop for fabulous skin.
5. Ciate Knight In Shining Armour (£12.00)
A revolution in nail care, this overnight nail treatment is enriched with marula oil to hydrating and brighten, as well as nourishing urea to penetrates nails to deeply rehydrate. Applied to naked nails and left to dry for a few seconds before slipping between the sheets, you simply wash it off the next morning - no nail polish remover required. Water mixes with the formula to turn it into a creamy solution that can be washed away to leave nails feeling and looking smooth; just don't wash your hands by accident after applying! Although it is a little annoying you have to remove your polish to get the benefit (this definitely isn't a daily treat!) it's great as a weekly way to look after your nails.
6. Aromatherapy Associates Overnight Repair Mask (£53.00)
This may sound expensive, but it's really worth the price tag - especially as you need the smallest blob to make a difference. Applied to skin as you slip into bed, the essential oils smell divine and really help to relax the mind, while the creamy and lightweight formula gets to work to leave skin feeling baby soft. Strawberry seed extracts feed skin with rich fatty acids to help plump its appearance and restore moisture, while nourishing oils of rice germ and millet seed help protect against environmental damage. The result is super soft and plump skin that ensures your makeup applies like a dream, providing the confidence you need even when it's been a tough week. I love this so much I've had to put it on rationing - twice a week is all I'm allowed!
