It's not often that I get the opportunity to slip into a bath and pamper myself from top to toe - more often than not I grab a quick soak when I have a spare twenty minutes before bed, rather than indulging in a full-on (and well deserved) preening session. Although I love indulging in a hard working face mask, there are also times when I need a quick pick-me-up that will leave my skin feeling refreshed without taking half an hour to get to work. I've shortlisted five of my current favourite face masks that all offer slightly different benefits, but all provide the skincare hit I need to keep my complexion looking as fabulous as possible. From ten minute pre-shower face plumpers that you can wack on while making breakfast, to deep cleansing and indulgent mud concoctions, I've got all bases covered...
Antonia Burrell 7-in-1 Mask Supreme (£57.00)
Offering seven different actions in one pot (it hydrates, smoothes, detoxifies, repairs, clarifies, illuminates, protects and perfects your skin) this is the epitome of multi-tasking skincare. The formula itself is much lighter than you would imagine; although it looks like a clay or mud mask in the pot, it actually applies like a cream and sinks into skin as it gets to work. After a session with this my skin instantly feels smoother, firmer, plumper, more youthful and a little bit glowy; most other masks leave my skin feeling dry and as though they've removed the badness, whereas this definitely feels like it's injected a lot of goodness.
Eve Lom Rescue Mask (£44.00)
If you want something cheap and cheerful, then this is not your guy. If you want something you can treasure, rely on to give you a helping hand at certain times of the month and last for ages, then Eve Lom's Rescue Mask could be a great contender. This acts as an emergency treatment for my tired and stressed skin, helping to cleanse deep into pores without drying the skin, while absorbing excess oil and calming redness. Formulated with Kaolin Clay to reduce puffiness, ground almonds to Gently exfoliate and honey to nourishes, this is one of the most hardworking face products I own.
Origins Ginzing Refreshing Face Mask (£23.00)
This gel formula provides a ten minute pick-me-up without the faff. The transparent lightweight texture glides over skin and coats your complexion in a practically invisible veil, getting to work straight away to leave skin feeling refreshed. Containing coffee beans to energise and cucumber to cool, this perks up my skin when it's looking and feeling tired but I don't have time to pander to its needs. It's perfect before work, pre-makeup on a big night out or just a ten minute time out after a busy day. If you hate the faff of face masks or detest the chalky texture, then this is the anti-mask that you'll truly treasure.
Rodial X-Treme Hangover Mask (£45.00)
Although this comes with a controversial name and huge price tag, it's actually great when nothing else will fix your skin after a long week. This triple action resurfacing clay mask deeply cleanses, exfoliates and decongests skin to 'restore a youthful glow' - helped by the inclusion of glycolic and fruit acids to help gently remove dull skin from the surface. It provides a slight tingling sensation, but nothing dramatic, and works well to exfoliate while removing it with a hot flannel.
Clinique Turnaround Instant Facial (£35.00)
This duo-function treat is oil-free and in five minutes delivers smoother and more radiant skin. It simultaneously provides subtle exfoliation with an injection of moisture, promoting surface cell turnover to offer a similar effect to microdermabrasion with significantly less irritation and stress to skin. You need only a little amount to cover the surface of skin effectively and only a few minutes to leave it to get to work; this is a perfect pick-me-up if you've only got a few minutes to ensure your skin feels plumped and perfected.
