There's no better time to hit the reset button on your skin than at the start of a new year. Over the festive season we all over-indulged, let our skincare routine slip a little, replaced fruit n veg with Quality Street and interrupted our sleeping patterns. I know that my skin looked a little worse for wear at the start of January, with my normal radiant glow and clear complexion being replaced with pigmentation, dryness, sallow skin and huge under-eye circles. It was time to put serious action into place, so I embarked on a seven day intense treatment with Bare Minerals; their '7 Day Skin Detox Mineral Brightening Peel' aims to bring vitality back to your skin in just a week. The intensive skincare regimen has been specifically designed to leave skin looking brighter and feeling smoother, evening skin tone and reducing dull build-up - all from the comfort of your own home.
Containing seven mini vials of transparent liquid, each one provides a daily shot of goodness to build up the result over the course of a week. Each daily vial addresses the needs of skin and builds on the benefits of the day before to detoxify, reinvigorate and fortify; the formulas contain a high concentration of targeted ingredients, including exfoliating acids, potent hydrators and Kombucha Black Tea to deliver rapid visible results while reinforcing your skin's own ability to look after itself. It's so easy to use, as you simply apply each vial of liquid to a cotton pad in the morning after cleansing, wiping it across your face for a few minutes to ensure it gets to work; I liked to leave the formula for about ten minutes before applying my usual skincare products and makeup, but it's not totally necessary to wait if you're in a hurry. This is an easy peasy way to get the benefit of a facial peel without the time investment, intense result or downtime.
The daily vials all provide something a little different to ensure your skin looks and feels its best at the end of the treatment period; here's a simple breakdown of what to expect:
Day 1: Prep skin for total renewal. (Antioxidants help counter free radicals, starting the detoxification process and preparing skin for a progression of treatments.)
Day 2: Ignite cell turnover. (The first phase of exfoliation begins. Dull, damaged surface skin cells are sloughed off to smooth skin and soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles.)
Day 3: Create a moisture shield. (As the exfoliation process continues, potent hydrators work together to form a protective barrier that traps and holds in the moisture skin needs.)
Day 4: Increase cell renewal. (The skin's natural cell renewal processes are reawakened to allow fresh, new skin to emerge for a healthy-looking complexion.)
Day 5: Intensify the detoxification process. (As the level of exfoliating acids reaches its peak, the slate is thoroughly cleaned, allowing skin to receive and refuel.)
Day 6: Replenish and fortify skin. (Skin is infused with beneficial vitamins and minerals to help reduce signs of aging and strengthen skin's natural defense barrier.)
Day 7: Reveal revitalized and renewed skin. (A final dose of potent ingredients, including skin-brightening Vitamin C, reveals a radiant, younger-looking you.)
The process isn't uncomfortable, nor is it what you'd associate with a traditional 'skin peel'. On day two I did notice a slight tingling and a touch of redness, which increased gradually with day three, four and five as the concentration of ingredients reached their peak. However, the redness was only temporary (it disappeared within about an hour but was easily covered with makeup) and the tingling stopped within about five minutes - it's not uncomfortable or painful, nor do any of the formulas sting or leave the skin feeling tight. (I did, however, get a beast of a spot on my forehead - the first pimple in months!) After the first three days I started to notice how smooth and supple my skin felt, while on day five and six I really started to notice the difference in tone; upon completion I definitely feel like my face has had an intense skincare workout that helps my skincare to penetrate effectively (creams soak in much faster) and my makeup to apply like a dream.
I don't often have the time for an intense facial treatment in a spa or salon, so it's great to see at-home alternatives that can slip into your routine effortlessly without costing a fortune. At £59.00 it's much more affordable than a facial or traditional skin peel which can cost double or triple the price, plus you can easily get away with only using half of each vial to ensure you get two treatments out of one pack. Although there are no specific instructions on how often to run through the seven day regimen, I would recommend leaving a few months between each one to ensure you're not over-treating your skin or potentially doing it more harm than good. I did enjoy using this treatment and definitely noticed a significant difference, so if you're in the market for something a little different from the norm when your regualr skincare products aren't providing the impact you require, the '7 Day Skin Detox Mineral Brightening Peel' is definitely a option to explore.
The Bare Minerals 7 Day Skin Detox Mineral Brightening Peel is available online and in stand-alone stores, priced £59.00 for the seven day regime.
